Teck Alaska Incorporated, Red Dog Operations, one of the world's largest producers of zinc concentrate, is recruiting for a Senior Facility Operating Technician. Due to anticipated needs, we are currently recruiting for a career oriented individual to fill this role.
Rotation schedule will be four weeks onsite and two weeks offsite OR two weeks onsite and one week offsite.
Reporting to the Building Maintenance Supervisor.
Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.
Monitor the performance of all equipment, gauges and chart in the treatment plant and pump stations; records statistical data concerning plant operations; maintain, operate, repair and replace equipment as necessary; chart lab test results for trend analysis and maintain accurate records of analyses and test results; evaluate data and write report as required.
Operate, maintain and repair malfunctions at the wastewater screening treatment plant; repair gauges, pumps, filters and other controls and equipment.
Collect samples and identify concentrates of chemical, physical or biological characteristics of wastewater required in accordance with local, state and federal requirements; gather and test wastewater samples for plant efficiency, report as required. Perform quality control tests on lab equipment and lab analyses; evaluate procedures and results for accuracy and determine appropriate methods. Assure that plant operates within required standards.
Contain and dispose of hazardous wastes generated the by the lab. Calibrate, modify or repair instrumentation and control equipment including recorders, flow meters and other water quality monitoring equipment.
Respond to complaints regarding the wastewater plan or system, evaluate situations; explain findings to supervisor.
Water System Duties
Inspect and/or repair chlorine machine and other water treatment equipment, pumping stations, wells, meters, and other elements of the water supply and distribution systems as frequent intervals to insure that all aspects of the systems are functioning properly.
Assists in maintaining water quality by taking water samples and maintaining proper operation of water treatment equipment. Maintain a variety of records relating to inspections, DMRs, maintenance activity, water supply, treatment, consumption, etc.
Determine the locations of water lines from the appropriate source prior to excavation. Respond to complaints regarding water leaks, pressure loss or no water; evaluate situation; explain findings to supervisor. Contact Red Dog PAC residents where services will be discontinued and explain when services will be shut off and how soon it will be turned back on.
Insure proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools after use, perform routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refer defects or needed repairs to supervisor; cleans equipment. Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
Assist in the training of lower level employees to increase their skills in the operation, maintain and repair of water facilities. Operate a variety of power tools and maintenance equipment used in the water department.
Monitor performance of electrical systems, circuits or equipment of the treatment plant.
Graduation from high school education or GED equivalent and a minimum of 10 years’ experience as a Water Plant Operator.
Must have working knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in wastewater/potable treatment plant maintenance and operation activities; working knowledge of laboratory procedures and practices.
Must possess a Level II (2) Alaska Water Treatment Plant Operators License.
Must have a working knowledge of the operation, methods and procedures of a wastewater treatment plant.
Must have solid knowledge of State and Federal rules governing wastewater discharges and worker’s safety
